Accompany
Someone you know has undertaken a mission of great importance, and you agree to help. You might be helping a friend complete a noble quest, feel obligated to help because you can’t trust them to finish the job themselves, or agree because at the end of it is a big reward. You know this other person, but you don’t have to like them. This Story Path is for a player who wants to roleplay a character who is backing up, partnering with, or watching another person. The person you Accompany can be an NPC or another player character. If that person is another player character, both players must consent to the undertaking of this story and agree to continue working together after the Story Path is done. While the 1st event must be the first completed and 5th must be the last, the other three events can be completed in any order.
1st Event: Make a Deal
Completion: You complete this event when you learn someone is undertaking a task of dire importance and make an agreement to help them with the job. You can approach this person to offer your Skills after learning about the mission, or this person could come to you asking for help. The agreement you make can be formal (like a contract) or informal but should define each person’s responsibilities.Reward: Increase the die size of one of your Social Skills by 1.
2nd, 3rd, or 4th Event: Make Your Case
Completion: Your partner may have agreed to have you Accompany them, but they have their doubts. Maybe you did something that caused them to lose faith in your abilities, or maybe they never trusted you from the start. You complete this event when you settle those doubts by showing them that they are better off having you Accompany them.Reward: Increase the die size of one of your Social Skills by 1.
2nd, 3rd, or 4th Event: Tested Together
Completion: Your partner and you are tested by an unexpected obstacle that hinders your task. This could be the arrival of a new enemy, unexpected red tape, or some other hindrance. You complete this event when you overcome the obstacle by working together.Reward: Select one special ability from your Species.
2nd, 3rd, or 4th Event: Argument
Completion: You complete this event after you have an argument with your partner about how to proceed. What was your fight about? How bad did it get? Did you resolve your differences, or does resentment still linger between you?Reward: Increase the die size of one of your Mental Skills by 1.
5th Event: Are We Still Friends?
Completion: Did this experience bring you closer, or are you left with a little dislike for each other? You complete this event after your partner and you either finish or abandon the job.Reward if the job brings you closer: Gain the Glad You’re a Friend Nova ability. You can spend 1 Nova point to have your friend appear at your side, call you with important information, or otherwise aide you in a time of need. If your partner was an NPC, the GM decides how this help manifests. If your partner was another player character, that player and the GM decide how this help manifests. If you complete this Story Path a second or greater time with the same person and the job brings you closer again, select one Nova ability from your Species. If you take the Accompany Story Path again with a different person and you become closer to them, you gain this Nova ability again. Your old Glad You’re a Friend Nova Abilities can still be used. If a former partner dies or stops being a friend for any reason, you lose this Nova ability and can immediately select one Nova ability from your Species.
Reward if you the job makes you dislike each other: Select one Nova ability from your Species.
