You decide to trick someone into giving you their money, possessions, or secrets. The person you decide to trick could be a corrupt official stealing from the poor, a pirate captain who raids poor farming communities, a sleazy politician running against your candidate of choice, or anyone else you choose. This Story Path is for people who want to fool others.

1st Event: Find a Mark

Completion: You complete this event when you find the person you plan to trick into giving you wealth or information. This person is now your mark. You should know the person’s name, their profession, and what you want to take from them.

Reward: Increase the die size of one of your Mental skills by 1.

2nd Event: Meet the Mark

Completion: You complete this event when you have an initial meeting with your mark after deciding to trick them. This meeting can happen in person or over the Complenet. You can meet your mark as yourself or in disguise.

Reward: Increase the die size of one of your Social skills by 1.

3rd Event: Learn their Weakness

Completion: Your mark might have a special pet, addiction, dark secret, or something else you can exploit. You complete this event once you have discovered a weakness that helps you gain the mark’s wealth or secrets.

Reward: Increase the die size of one of your Social skills by 1.

4th Event: Exploit the Weakness

Completion: You complete this event after you exploit your mark’s weakness in an attempt to gain wealth or information from them, whether you get what you want or not. For instance, you might ask them to invest in a fake business, blackmail them with a secret you know, or take their favorite pet hostage.

Reward: Select one special ability from your species.

5th Event: Con Aftermath

Completion: Did you get away with other person’s wealth or secrets? If so, how? If not, how do you deal with the fallout of the failed con? Is your mark searching for revenge, or did you get away without them knowing it was you who did the deed? You complete this event after you deal with the aftermath of the con.

Reward if you give away the wealth or information to someone else: Select one Nova ability from your species.

Reward if you keep the wealth or information for yourself: Gain 20,000 argent.

Reward if you fail: Gain the Read People Nova ability. You can spend 1 Nova point after talking to another person for at least 5 minutes to ask the GM three questions about the person that the GM must answer honestly (though not completely). If you complete this Story Path a second or greater time and you fail to pull off the con again, select one Nova ability from your species.
